Karolina Pliskova (5) v Lesia Tsurenko
It’s the final day of the Brisbane International with the finals the only remaining matches to be played. The women’s tournament has a produced a final of Czech former champion fifth seed Karolina Pliskova up against Lesia Tsurenko from Ukraine. The favourite heading into the match-up has to be Pliskova because she has the big weapons to really rack up points and game while Tsurenko will be hoping for some errors to go her way. Pliskova does not normally falter in the big stages with a 2-1 winning record in finals last year. However, Pliskova has not looked at her peak for all of this weak while Tsurenko has been able to close wins with precision including a particularly impressive one of Naomi Osaka in the semifinals. The head-to-head sees Tsurenko lead at 3-2, winning both previous hard court encounters, but they have not played on a hard court since 2015. Ultimately, I do think that the big time play of Pliskova will pull through but Tsurenko will mount a credible challenge.
