This match is the first match that’s being played out on Stadium 4. It is Svitolina’s first match of the tournament but for Wang she got a three set win over Katerina Bondarenko in the first round.
Both players have been playing really well recently and are coming in to Indian Wells with a lot of momentum. Wang is coming off two straight quarterfinals in Dubai, a Premier 5 event, and Kuala Lumpur, an international event. She hasn’t beaten any really high ranked players during her recent run of form this would be a set up for her. Svitolina is currently on a 15-match winning streak which includes her getting the biggest title of her career in Dubai. During her run she’s got some really great wins over people like Kerber and Wozniacki.
Indian Wells Form
This is the first time that Wang has played at this tournament so she would still be adjusting to the court and what kind of shots work well on these courts. Svitolina has played here every year since 2013 and in her four appearances she’s got a first round, a second round, a fourth round and a third round in order. Third round points from last year means she’s not defending much and won’t be feeling pressure as she comes out to play. Svitolina has reached a fourth round and that probably means she feels relatively comfortable on the surface.
Head to Head Record
This is the players first meeting.
I think that both players will be coming in with a lot of confidence and both will think that they can win this match in straight sets. I think Wang will be playing her best tennis when she comes out for the first set because she will be so motivated and I think she will just outplay her. I think that Svitolina will put up a really tough fight but Wang will eventually take the first set 7-5. From their I think Wang’s level will drop as she becomes more comfortable in the match and Svitolina will attack and take the second set 6-0. I think the final set will be similar to the first but I think Wang will manage to just get a game in the board but Svitolina will take the match 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
